Wrist Pain Healing Techniques

By Tom Nicholson

When you have a hobby or job that necessitates the use of your hands, you may start to get a little nervous whenever you encounter wrist pain. Suddenly every twinge and every ache is a sign of inflammation and you might be worrying yourself into a case of hypochondria! The truth of the matter is that wrist pain and wrist injuries can be avoided if you are simply careful. While some people do seem more susceptible to wrist injuries than other people, it is still worth looking into preventative measures and considering how you are going to be able to move forward and keep your wrists in good health.

The first tip to prevent wrist pain is simply being mindful. Think about what you do every day and the position that you keep your hands in. Do you do a lot of work that requires fine motor control? Things like sewing, carving, and typing are all activities that require dexterous motions of your hands, and once you start to get good at them, you are going to find that you are moving faster and faster. It can be a little bit irritating, but you want to remember not to work as fast as you can. If you are working as fast as you can, you will find that there is a good chance that you are going to wind up with fingers, hands, and wrists that are sore and inflamed.

Continual movements for any length of time will cause various consequences. Therefore, your body does need to rest occasionally. For instance, if you type for an hour, you need to take a 5-minute break. Simply get away from the computer and stretch your body, especially your hands. You can ensure healthy wrists by flexing them now and again. Typing tends to keep your hands at an uncomfortable and rigid position. Take the time to ensure that the tendons in the hands and wrists get a rest if you plan to move forward with your work.

Another thing that you can help you reduce wrist pain is to keep your wrists at a distance. Don't work with your wrists close to your body, as this can cause stress and cramping. Instead, push your wrists further away from you and make sure that you stop and consider what your options are going to be. This is something that can make a huge difference in the long run, and it will essentially redistribute the stress that you are experiencing throughout your arms and shoulders. Take some time and consider where you work and how you position yourself.

Being mindful of those things you do with your wrists and hands is a great tip to follow when you want to be wrist pain free. As you become more mindful of wrist pain signals, you can work towards becoming pain free. - 30453

Sports and Physical Therapy: Augment Recovery From A Massage Chair

By John Allen

Amateur and professional athletes alike both know that injury comes hand in hand with sports. Sports by its very nature are geared to push the limits of individuals to remain competitive. As boundaries are pushed, limits will be crossed. This is when injuries happen. However, the body is very resilient and with the help of the physical therapy programs recovery times are minimal. These advanced therapy programs build a regimen of activities to restore health and vitality to the affected areas. Many programs require the use of exercise equipment, massage chairs and stretching elements.

If you start a physical therapy program, then you will be assigned a physical therapist. The therapist is a trained professional to help restore your strength, motion and activity. The therapist understands the mechanics of your body and will help design a treatment program for you. You will learn specific stretches, exercises and other specialized techniques to help your body recover. You may also use specific equipment that can address particular issues. Massage therapy has become an important tool in the recovery arsenal and many clinics are making use of massage chair recliners.

Your therapist is trained in different surgeries, treatments and rehabilitation techniques and goals. The therapist will design a recovery treatment targeting the areas of your body that needs greater flexibility or strength. If you are recovering from surgery, then the therapist will be knowledgeable about different surgical procedures. The therapist will help in setting goals as you work through the initial limitations of your physique. Some of the important physical therapy tools are stretching, exercises and massage therapy.

One of the key areas when you start is to make your muscles more pliable. When an injury occurs, the body immobilizes the affected area. Your body has redundant systems for most everything. If your leg is injured, it will want the other leg to take over. The body does not want the injured leg used and tries to shut it down to heal it. This is good, but your muscles become stiff and tight. They actually hurt when you start to bend them. Stretching is an important part of the physical therapy routine to build back flexibility.

Your body will adapt after an injury or other trauma. The affected areas will be minimized from activity. As a result, those muscles not being used start to lose strength. It is important to start to regain strength in the affected areas as soon as is reasonable in your situation. Stretching builds initial flexibility and exercise builds back the strength. The exercises may focus on particular individual muscles or groups of muscles. You may need to use a stationary bicycle or a treadmill as part of your recovery routine.

Massage therapy is important to assist the total healing process. The muscle tissue breaks down and its fibers become shorter. This makes the muscles tighter. Massage therapy starts where stretching leaves off. Massage therapy helps to penetrate deeper into the muscle tissue to help elongate and invigorate the muscles. This helps the healing process by restoring flexibility throughout the muscle and scar tissue. Massage is given either by a massage therapist or a massage chair. Massage chairs come with a variety of therapeutic massages, heat therapies and even traction. These not only provide effective therapy but also help you to relax and clear your mind.

If you push your limits, you may sometimes go too far and suffer an injury. Or they may just happen. Either way, you just want to be fully recovered. The physical therapies being offered utilize top notch technology and methodologies. From massage chair recliners to treadmills, you will be exposed to a range of treatments designed for your full recovery. - 30453

Tendonitis Exercises That Will Really Help

By Tom Nicholson

Generally speaking, tendons are incredibly strong fibrous tissues connecting muscles to bones. Of course these can be found over the entire body where they serve to bond the muscles and bones. However, when people place too much demand on their muscles, the tendons can become injured and painful. The biggest culprit for a person developing tendonitis is repetitive movements. For example, if a person repeatedly uses their arm to perform the same motion, they could in fact end up experiencing acute pain in the relevant joint. Fortunately however, there are some exercises which are known to be beneficial in terms of helping people prevent damage to their tendons.

If at any time you feel pain accompanied by swelling and tenderness, and you find that movement is difficult, especially in the shoulder, elbow, neck, and knee area, then there's a strong possibility that you have tendonitis. Of course, while these certainly aren't the only areas of the body which are susceptible to tendonitis, they are the most common. You should also bear in mind that even if you do tendonitis exercises before you start training or playing sports, your tendons can still become injured.

There are twenty-four area's on a person's body that have tendons, and each one can be prone to tendonitis. One of the area's that can be affected is the rotator cuff, located in the shoulder. The humerus top refers to the bone that composes the upper part of the arms. It acts as a stabilizer and allows a person to make a complete circular motion with their arms. A good Tendonitis Exercise for the arms and shoulder is done while standing up straight and both arms are at your side. Begin the exercise by slowly raising your right arm as high as you can, or at least until it reaches a 45 degree angle, still keeping your arm straight, then lower your arm the same way. You should continue with the same arm until it gets tired, and then do the same with your left arm, while your right arm is resting. You can do this exercise as long as you want, but 10 minutes should be sufficient. After the exercises are finished, put ice on your shoulders for approximately 15 to 20 minutes.

Most people have at some point heard of a condition known as tennis elbow, which is in fact a form of tendonitis. As you can probably imagine, this form of tendonitis got its common name due to the number of tennis players suffering from the condition. However, one should not be misled by the name because it is not only tennis players who end up with tennis elbow, but instead, a range of other sports can also be to blame, in addition to several different occupations such as carpentry for example. Furthermore, the pain and tenderness is not necessarily confined to the elbow, but instead, it can migrate down to the wrists and fingers as well. Whether or not you opt to use an elbow brace, it is still advisable to do tendonitis exercises.

Fortunately tennis elbow can in most cases be treated successfully at home, although if the pain has not started subsiding after two to three weeks then you should consider going to see a doctor. While many doctors will want to see an X-ray, these will not be able to show any adverse signs even if the tendonitis is severe. Above all, you should never begin tendonitis exercises at home unless you are confident that you can do them without causing further damage. - 30453

Wrist Braces Will Work to Alleviate Wrist Pain Effectively

By Tom Nicholson

One of the most general issues in postindustrial times is wrist pain. This problem has been dated back to the Industrial Revolution and was then referred to as "weaver's wrists", which covered a few conditions. A popular device that helps in the treatment of wrist pain is the wrist brace.

Nowadays, wrist pain is caused from either tendonitis, carpal tunnel syndrome or a sprain a person has suffered. The function of the wrist brace in each instance varies a bit, and being diagnosed will aid in you in properly wearing your wrist brace to recover fast.

With tendonitis, the tendon sheath will become irritated from too much usage. This is a common issue for athletes participating in sports that need a lot of wrist action such as tennis. To help this condition, a wrist brace will be used to keep the tendon sheath from moving. Much of the time anti-inflammatory drugs are given to stop inflammation, and ice may be used on the wrist as well. The brace will be removed for physical therapy and a brace for this sort of problem will let the wrist move up and down, but not side to side.

Carpal tunnel syndrome occurs when there is compression and inflammation of the nerve sheath for the median nerve that goes over the joint of the wrist. People usually feel both wrist pain and 'funny bone' pinched nerves in the hand, which will go from the base of the fingers all the way up the forearm to the elbow.

People get carpal tunnel syndrome from repetitive stress injuries such as typing excessively or using a mouse too much. In serious instances, it can impair the use of the hand. Wrist braces for carpal tunnel syndrome function by preventing the wrist from moving in a vertical motion because most of the time this issue is caused by people having bad posture when typing. They do not move their wrists at an adequate angle where the nerve can be compressed.

In comparison, wrist braces for carpal tunnel syndrome are just about the same as a wrist brace for tendonitis, but they are adjusted differently. They are not tightened as much on lateral movement and give more support to the underside of the wrist. Several include a rigid insert on the underside of the wrist to stop you from moving your wrist like a hinge.

If the wrist is sprained or breaks, the injuries are to the ligaments surrounding the wrist joints. Not like tendonitis and carpal tunnel syndrome, these sorts of issues will heal without much physical therapy. A wrist brace for a sprain works by restraining the wrist and prevents you from moving it in any direction. This will greatly affect how you can use the injured hand a lot.

No matter what ailment you get a wrist brace for, make sure to take the time to read the instructions on your wrist brace. When putting it on, try not to tighten it to the point where it'll constrict blood flowand if you're suffering from carpal tunnel syndrome, wear it any time you feel a twinge. - 30453
