Can You Use The Sun To Heat Your Hot Tub?

By Pat Janeski

With people being so interested in saving the environment, they are searching for ways to use the suns energy. It seems that if you could use the sun's power, you could save on electric bills and help the environment at the same time. The sun is a free source of energy (as is the wind) and more and more people are becoming interested in tapping into it.

Anyone looking for ways to save electricity might be looking into buying a solar hot tub instead of the regular kind. Unfortunately though, there really isnt such a thing as a solar hot tub on the market. There are several reasons for this but the main one is that the technology is too expensive. You see, a hot tub or Jacuzzi needs to be kept warm 24 hours a day and the sun is obviously not out that long. Therefore, some sort of solar capability along with a battery and energy storage would have to be made for such a thing as a solar hot tub to work.

Another reason why manufacturers have not built this kind of hot tub is because there is not enough demand for it. There are very few places in the United States that get enough sun year round for a solar hot tub to have any chance of working. If money cannot be made on a product, manufacturers will not make it and this is the case with solar hot tubs.

People who are still interested in such an idea may want to look into buying their own solar cells and constructing their own makeshift unit. Of course you want to make sure that you live in a place that gets plenty of direct sunlight or you will be wasting your time. Additionally, this is not something that a novice will be able to do easily. Something like attaching solar panels to a hot tub and actually having it work would be something best left to an electrician or someone with experience.

At this time of heightened awareness of the environment, you might think that some hot tubs would be made to use with sunlight. However, it seems this is not the case and anyone wishing to make their own solar hot tub should do some legwork and research first. Make sure you go to a hot tub dealer and ask what models might be better for such a transformation and they might be able to get you started down the right path. - 30453
